Fira’s Birthday at Sofitel + Cattle & Claw

You guys, Fira is three whole years! She just turned 3 this past weekend (December 15th) and I can’t believe this little 14 pound peanut is already 3?? It feels like only a year ago Weston + I did our road trip to Missouri to pick up her up.

It’s time for baby pics…

JIODSJIDJKFDNSJKFHDSJ. I almost cried when I held her in person- such a cute cute cute baked potato.

The sweetest. She’s grown up to be just a sweetheart. Loves running up to people and still acts like a puppy. Feisty and sassy. Very independent but at the same time, our forever BABY.

And just look at her now…

Anyways, we had a fun brunch with our friends @buttonthefrenchie @maggielovesorbit @minty_bee @pierre_dont_care @hi_im_chewie @arthur_and_george at Cattle & Claw at the Sofitel hotel on their beautiful outdoor patio. I would really recommend this spot for any beautiful outdoor events, birthday dinners, baby (puppy?) showers–the patio is so aestethically pleasing (IG friendly!) and so is the food. Especially nice if you have pups as it’s quite spacious.

Fave dish: lobster + waffles.

Fira was SO exhausted mid-way through—she rested her chin on the table and slept, lol. Thank you to our friends who came! We had such a nice time celebrating Fira’s big three. 🙂

Aaaand gift bags from some generous sponsors and friends! Merci @zippypaws @thebearandtherat @vitacoco @uglydrinks @saint_rue @leelaryan!

A huge thank you to Mary Haber and Gus Mejia for being our photographers!

Leave a comment below and we’ll choose a random winner to win one of our gift bags from the birthday filled with goodies for you + your pup!

5 Dog Friendly Hotel Restaurants Not To Miss in Los Angeles

There’s something about hotel restaurants that I just LOVE. Walking through a hotel lobby to get to your table just feels more chic. In Los Angeles, there are plenty of restaurants that offer outdoor patios with a spectacular, sunny view but which ones allow pups?

Well, we recently did a little food tour with Watson & Walls to scope out the best dog friendly restaurants in Los Angeles—all inside beautiful dog friendly hotels with gorgeous decor.

Viviane at Avalon Beverly Hills

The Avalon is tucked away like a hidden gem in the residential neighborhood of Beverly Hills—and what a gem! Step into the world of the 1950s to a hourglass-shaped pool, mid-century meets modern vibes (designed by famed Kelly Wearstler) and old school California cool.

Grab your sunglasses because Viviane‘s outdoor patio is poolside. We loved the California-inspired cuisine and the matching backdrop! The food was yummy with Mediterranean-inspired dishes like hummus, olives and herbed carrots dressed with tahini. By the way, if you decide to book a night with your dog at the hotel, the Avalon welcomes two pets up to 40 lbs for an additional fee of $100 per pet, per stay.

FIG at Fairmont Miramar Santa Monica

The Fairmont is the hotel you choose if you want to be oceansideFIG is located inside the hotel with a beautiful patio facing the beach. Locals know this spot all too well, as the Happy Hour is legendary! From 5-6pm, get a table at the FIG for 50% off the menu (even bottles!) and enjoy the beautiful view.

We love this spot for all the reasons above, including the delicious food. Did you know you can even order some dishes for the pups? Try the Tail Wagger (beef tenderloin, sweet potato + green beans), Rise & Fido (scrambled eggs, carrots + brown rice) or the Bow Wow (organic chicken, potato + peas).

If you’re looking to stay, the Fairmont just introduced their new Dog Be With You program which offers free charge for pets, all natural dog treats, a fluffy dog bed, dog toys and daily in-room breakfast for both you and your furry one!

cattle and claw review

Cattle & Claw at Sofitel Los Angeles

Cattle & Claw has become one of our favorites in town. Why? SO MUCH LOBSTER. Lobster pizza, lobster rolls, lobster tacos, lobster & waffles, lobster Bloody Mary’s. Yeah, that’s a thing. Alongside all of that are huge, juicy burgers (hence the name Cattle) and perfect french fries.

The outdoor patio is also a good one–blocked off from the traffic of Beverly Blvd (the hotel is located right across the street from the Beverly Center) with spacious grounds so you don’t feel like you’re disturbing your neighbor.

The Sofitel hotel is also dog-friendly with no extra charge for pets–cheers to that!

Mardi at Palihouse West Hollywood

Step inside the Palihouse to Mardi and it’s like you’ve walked into a garden jungalow party! We loved sitting at our marble table in this gorgeous oasis with an aperol spritz in hand.

Such a great little place to escape in the heart of West Hollywood. I could see myself coming back with the pups and working away in a cozy corner on my laptop.

By the way, Palihouse West Hollywood welcomes one pet of any size $150 per stay. They also offer Pet Packages that include locally sourced PLATO treats, Max-Bone dog beds, ceramic dog bowls and complimentary waste bags for walks.

Nelson’s at Terranea Rancho Palos Verdes

One of the biggest resorts in Southern California, Terranea boasts 102 acres and is perched atop cliffs alongside the Pacific Ocean. The views are just spectacular

Enjoy a getaway (for Angelenos, it’s only a 30 minute drive from LAX and feels like you are worlds away from LA) with tons of room and plenty of hikes with your pup. Hungry? Grab a bite at dog-friendly Nelson’s and take in the sunset.

For hotel stays, Terranea welcomes two pets of any size for a $150 fee.

Palihouse Santa Monica

1920s Colonial Revival…

We recently had a little staycation at the Palihouse in Santa Monica (opened in 2013). With 38 rooms and tucked away in a residential area, it’s almost hidden and completely peaceful. When you pull up, a three-story, 1920s Revival building greets you with an enchanting garden with tall greenery, a fountain and even a bocce ball court.

It’s adorable and feels like you’re worlds away.

Check into a high-ceiling lobby filled with antiques, dark leather, woodburning fireplace and a vintage elevator.

The room…

Many of the rooms here are meant for longer stays, so most are fitted with full kitchens, a vanity area and large, airy living rooms. We stayed in the one-bedroom apartment and it was so spacious and comfortable! We opened all the windows and let that beachy breeze in (BTW, the beach is only a five minute walk away).

Things to know…

Because of its residential location, this property is alcohol-free. BUT there are plenty of restaurants + bars within walking distance (we walked to FIG for dinner and Bungalow is also only a 7 minute walk) or you can even bring your own bottle(s) to your room.

There is no fitness center or pool here but the beach is very close. All this adds to the charm of this boutique hotel, making you feel very “at home” and relaxed.

On the weekends, there is a free breakfast spread for guests including coffees, teas, hardboiled eggs, toast + pastries.

Pets stay for $125/stay and the hotel provides comfy dog beds, bowls + homemade treats.

Pacific Edge Hotel

dog friendly hotel laguna beach

Boutique hotel right on the beach…

I haven’t been to Laguna Beach, or Orange County for that matter, in yearsss so when I found the chance to have a nice little beach weekend I was all for it. Honestly, I forget about good ole Orange County sometimes. But hello, palm trees + clean blue oceans and South Coast Plaza mall (one of the best malls in the country!). I even spotted a Pizzeria Mozza. Impressed.

If you’re looking for a spot on the beach that’s affordable and dog-friendly, Pacific Edge Hotel fits the bill. It’s very boutique-y and although they have 120+ rooms, they are separated by individually named buildings (we were in the Reef building). The rooms have a very distinct, mellow, beach vibe with many containing full kitchens. I loved my balcony and waking up to the ocean.

The highlight of this hotel is the location. We never had to take the car once. We walked to some local clothing shops, a nail salon, good restaurants and there was even a dog grooming/store across the street. There’s alsoooo a Taco Bell less than 10 feet away that’s open til MIDNIGHT. You’re welcome. The Cliff (Californian cuisine) is in the same block + they allow dogs on their outdoor oceanfront patio.

And of course, the beach…

Head down the outdoor stairs, and you’ll find yourself on the shore. Pups are welcome on the beach and in the hotel, of course. The hotel welcomes two pets per room; $50 per stay.

Jeremy Hotel

The Newest Hotel on Sunset…

Jeremy Hotel just opened late last year, which makes it one of the newest, hottest spots on Sunset Strip—and it doesn’t disappoint. The location is great (La Cienega + Sunset), the views are massive (panoramic views of Los Angeles) and the building itself is architecturally a thing of beauty.

It’s so big that when I walked in I thought I had walked into the wrong building and was in a museum/art gallery of some sort. It is sleek and clean with neutral tones of white oak, light woods and cement. Installations here and there dot the entrance and as you walk down the stairs, you think you’ve walked into HD Buttercup’s sister store (HD Buttercup is the mecca of interior/furniture stores—the best of LA).

dog friendly hotels in hollywood

Supposedly, Jeremy Hotel is just a temporary placeholder until renovations can begin again and it’ll join the family of 1 Hotels (modern, high-end hotels/residences located in NYC, Brooklyn, Miami, etc).

I cannot wait for this! 1 Hotels are just dreamy along with eco-friendly living and architecture inspired by nature. Think creamy linens, natural woods, exposed cement and moss-covered walls.

The Skyline 1 Bedroom Suite…

We got upgraded to this 1 bdr suite (almost 1000 sq ft) on the top floor overlooking the city and omg—I wanted to move in. We instantly felt relaxed the moment we walked in and made ourselves home. Because the building sits atop Hollywood, the sun shines wonderfully airy light.

Dogs are welcome (up to two) for $100/stay. They are treated with pet beds from Shinola, homemade snacks (like bacon + treats!) and bowls.

Los Angeles Dog-Friendly Guide

Where to take your dogs in Los Angeles?

Griffith Park is massive and the perfect place for a nature lover. The park stretches over 4,210 acres of land which makes it one of the largest urban parks in North America. You can explore the Travel Town Museum which features an old railroad track, have a grassy picnic or just have a nice walk around. If you’re into hiking, put on your workout gear and get your Instagram photos in (crazy view of LA) at Runyun Canyon.

Lake Hollywood is a must, especially for that infamous pic under the Hollywood sign! There’s a fun little leash-only dog park below that’s usually dotted with pups and picnics–one of the most popular dog friendly parks in Los Angeles. 3160 Canyon Lake Dr.

Sitting on the base of Rodeo Dr is the iconic Beverly Wilshire Hotel (yes, a la Pretty Woman) It is also dog-friendly with no pet fee which is much-appreciated (dogs 15 lbs max)! 9500 Wilshire. Just across the street, stop for lunch at Two Rodeo Drive at their upstairs outdoor patio and enjoy the view + people-watching. Complimentary 2 hour valet parking. Stroll along this historic road and visit the flagship stores of Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Cartier, Harry Winston and more.

Walk a few blocks north (9388 S Santa Monica Blvd) and you’ll find another Beverly Hills flagship: Pussy & Pooch–a lifestyle boutique with luxe, modern products for pets (we spotted a chic denim vest for $200!).

Of all the shopping areas in LA, Melrose Place is the most charming and oh so “European,” in my opinion. This beautiful, tree-lined street features floral alley ways and chic brands like Chloe, Isabel Marant, Oscar de la Renta, Bottega Veneta, Marc Jacobs and more.

Hang out at The Grove! After some shopping (Nordstrom’s, Topshop, Zara, Sephora + more) grab a dairy-free frozen yogurt from Pressed Juicery and hang out in the grassy area right next to the main fountain. There are wooden chairs and the Grove provides blankets to stretch out on the grass as well. They even offer complimentary doggie treats!

Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice is a fabulous way to spend an afternoon. So many cool stores and artisinal cafes + restaurants fill this street. For dog lovers, look for Modern Dog. This sweet little bungalow is filled with beautiful products for the design-conscious buyer. 1611 Abbot Kinney Blvd.

Check out the trendy Fred Segal’s for hard-to-find beauty products, trendy clothes and kitchy home goods. Mauro’s Cafe is located in the shopping boutique and has always been one of my favorites. Authentic italian classics with a slight modern twist–my fave dish here is the pomodoro spaghetti with broccoli and peas added in. 8112 Melrose Ave.

Eveleigh features farm-to-table comfort food and an adorable dog-friendly outdoor patio. The decor here is to die for and the pups feel right at home on their grassy patio. 8752 Sunset Blvd. Check out my other top 10 Dog Friendly Eats in Hollywood.

Want to head over to the East side? For a local, neighborhood pub try Morrison. They literally have a separate menu for dogs with a selection of beef, chicken or hot dogs. Did I mention, it’s all served on a silver platter? 3179 Los Feliz Blvd.

The LINE hotel has made its mark in Los Angeles, highlighting Koreatown as a hip, vibrant spot to explore. 12-story hotel features concrete walls and industrial aesthetic. Read more here. Pet fee: $50 per pet, per stay.

With twelve lush acres, the Beverly Hills Hotel has so many spectactular areas to walk around in, especially near the bungalows. Enjoy the giant palm trees, the iconic pink + green shades and palm leaf prints. I just love the old Hollywood vibes of this hotel. Read full review. Pet fee: $35 per pet, per stay.

Beverly Hills Hotel

We recently finished a particularly busy two weeks, so we decided to pick a hotel for a staycation because why not? GOTTA ENJOY LIFE. There’s only one. Yada yada.

I just love the iconic, old Hollywood vibes in this hotel. It’s like the walls hold ancient Hollywood secrets. For being the Beverly Hills Hotel, they must really love dogs because they only charge $35 per pet and offer a doggie menu, dog sitting and the most adorable bright pink dog beds and bowls I’ve ever seen. Oh, and there was a pup just lounging on a chaise next to their owner by the pool, of course. Only in LA…

With 12 lush acres, there are lots of gorgeous pockets to explore and walk around in, especially near the bungalows. Enjoy the giant palm trees, the pleasing pink + green colors and palm leaf prints everywhere–I can’t get enough of that print!

Anyways, it was an amazing way to spend a couple days relaxing. We kept saying how we felt like we were outside of LA and it was just the perfect spot to hide away and feel pampered.

Terranea Resort

terranea dog friendly hotel

In a land not so far away…

Terranea Resort celebrates the best of California, set on 102 acres of natural landscape on the gorgeous Palos Verdes Peninsula. Imagine panoramic views of the blue Pacific Ocean and lush nature life greeting you when you arrive to this expansive eco-friendly resort. Being less than 35 miles south of Los Angeles, Terranea is a must for a getaway with the pup(s).

We had a much-needed mini vacation and felt like we were a world away. The coastal bluffs set a beautiful view and somehow the water looks bluer than any California beach I can remember. You can even spot gray and blue whales migrating alongside dolphins! Along with Weston and Fira, we got a good amount of exercise thanks to the expansive walking trails and grassy fields that we all explored.

For the adventurers, make sure to take advantage of all the activities they offer: stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, guided hiking trails, horseback riding, a golf course, the beach cove, oceanfront yoga and even a Pilates studio. The beach cove was my favorite. An oceanside path leads you to a small sandy beach and tucked away in the corner is a little beach cove and cave. It reminded me of our visits to Croatia or even Cinque Terre.

A dog lover’s favorite escape and a dog’s dream…

All rooms have private balconies–most of them with ocean views. Pups are also welcomed with their own fluffy dog bed and bowls. Weston and Fira loved being able to scamper out the balcony doors and play in the yard right ouside (and so did we!).

As for food, we hardly left the resort. There are so many amazing options from fine dining to casual cafes. I actually loved the Spa Cafe so much we went twice. 🙂 The dishes are the perfect, healthy, Californian cuisine. Make sure to try Nelson’sset cliff-top above the Pacific Ocean and the most dog-friendly restaurant in town. Many locals come here with their pups (we spotted a lot of happy dogs!) to enjoy the drinks, comfort food, outdoor fire pits and the spectactular sunsets.
