Guess what?
It’s my birthday today. So, of course the pups get their own dog-friendly cake!
I found this recipe on my fave DIY dog blog Pretty Fluffy — it’s just so photogenic and sounded delicious. It’s even grain-free as it’s made with almond flour and full of clean ingredients like coconut oil, strawberries + honey.
I really like to cook. I have several homemade dog food recipes on here and love cooking but BAKING? I just suck at it. Hate the measuring, hate the exactness of it. When I cook, I like to throw around things with a flourish like #saltbae.
So, this is what the cake is suppose to look like; courtesy of Pretty Fluffy:
Gorgeous, right?
Well, let’s continue…
The ingredients are relatively simple:
CAKE:
1 3/4 cup almond flour
1 – 2 TBS honey (preferably raw)
3 eggs
2-3 TBS melted coconut oil
1 cup chopped organic strawberries + couple of extra for topping
ICING:
1 cup of organic plain yogurt
2-3 TBS almond butter or organic peanut butter
Preheated the oven to 350 degrees and greased the ramekins like the recipe said to…
Blended up all the ingredients in my handy Nutribullet.
Bake for 20 minutes. Ta da! Adorable little strawberry cakes.
Then…
This happened (this ALWAYS happens).
They didn’t just slide out of the ramekins. I had to scoop them out with a spoon, crumbling the bottom in the process. The photo actually doesn’t look that bad now that I’m looking at it but they were lumpy and not as pretty as the original photos. I will never be master baker. lol.
Salvaged what I could and of course, the dogs didn’t care. They loved these little gluten free treats and they smelled so good!

I’m sure they don’t mind the look at all. They probably smelt delicious.
Where these hard and dense? All of the recipes I’m finding aren’t baking fluffy!
Ah, they are dense!
I can’t find the oven temp or baking time on this recipe.
Ah, thanks for pointing that out! Updated. It’s 350 degrees + 20 minutes 🙂
I melted a little coconut oil and greased muffin pans with that, and they came out very easily (:
Good idea!!
would i be able to just bake it in a larger pan? I’m hoping for a bigger cake than mini!
Absolutely!!
Like your style. Wish you had a printable tab for recipes. Maybe you do and I just don’t see it?
Making today for Kibbles 6th birthday!! He will be so excited!! Thank you for the recipe!!
Second time making this recipe for my pups. I do find that 20 mins is not enough time to cook the cake in the ramekins, (at least mine). I do leaven them in for 25 mins or so.
I want to try this for my pups 1st birthday! Can you cook the cake ahead? How long would it last in the fridge.
Thanks
