Easy Homemade Birthday Cake For Your Dog
This delicious, natural cake recipe was so easy to make! I’m not much of a baker, so I was actually impressed with how beautiful this came out. Fira turns 9 years old, so I made sure I added nine blueberries on top of the cake.
This healthy cake is made with just ground oats (or you can use almond flour), peanut butter and applesauce – yum! Make sure you use all-natural, unsalted peanut butter and unsweetened applesauce.
The frosting is made with just plain greek yogurt and mashed blueberries. Fira’s favorite treats are blueberries, so I made sure to add them to the frosting! They add the prettiest lavender color and delicious sweetness. You can easily use strawberries for a pink color or even just a peanut butter frosting.
Let’s make this dog-friendly birthday cake…

Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup ground oats
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 cup natural, unsalted peanut butter
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 egg
For the frosting:
- 1 cup greek yogurt
- handful of blueberries
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grind oats into a powder in a food processor or blender.

Combine dry ingredients (ground oats & baking powder) with a whisk.
Add the rest of ingredients and mix by hand or use an electric mixer.

Spray small cake tin or ramekin with cooking spray or coconut and pour in batter.
Bake for 25 minutes.

I ended up making a two-layer cake, so I stacked two cakes and put the frosting in between the layers. You would just need to double the cake recipe!
For the frosting, mash blueberries and whisk in the greek yogurt until creamy.

Grain-Free Strawberry Almond Cake

Keep this fresh in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5-7 days. Hope your pup enjoys!
Can dogs eat cake?
Not regular cake. Sugar, chocolate, and xylitol are toxic to dogs. This recipe swaps those for dog-safe ingredients like peanut butter (xylitol-free), pumpkin, and grain-free flour, so it’s safe in moderation.
How long does this dog cake keep?
Up to 5 days in the fridge in an airtight container, or freeze individual slices for up to 2 months.
Can I make this cake ahead of time?
Yes. Bake and frost up to 2 days before the party, then store in the fridge until serving.
What can I substitute if my dog has allergies?
Swap grain-free flour for oat flour if grain isn’t the issue, or use pureed sweet potato instead of pumpkin. Avoid substituting the peanut butter with anything containing xylitol.
Can puppies eat this cake?
Yes, in small amounts, once they’re on solid food. Skip if your vet has them on a restricted diet.
Do I need a stand mixer to make this?
No, a hand mixer or even a whisk work fine for this batter.
